Shirt Construction

Here’s a peek of my current project. I was given the assignment to construct a garment from scratch (excluding pattern). I took a trip to the fabric store and came across this native american print along with some chambray and quilt. I had the idea of making a work shirt. The criteria of the assignment calls for a derivation of a specific era of fashion (pre-1920) with the twist of a contemporary designer. From the get go, I wanted to create something I would wear so my era of choice is “1800’s Midwestern”. Essentially the shirt with be an all-over print with quilted yokes and a chambray lining. So far, I have put in 3 hours of labor. I’ve got the drafting part done with as well as pinning down the pattern and making the print align with the structure. So far so good. I’ll have more updates next week. I plan on having the front/back yokes, front pockets, and the front/back panels (excluding collar) constructed by then.
